Higher Education Registration and Accreditation

Registered with the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) until 31 December 2029 as a private higher education institution under the Higher Education Act, 1997 (Act No. 101 of 1997), as amended. Registration Certificate No. 2026/HE07/002.

IBM College is registered under the legal name Institute of Business Management of South Africa (Pty) Ltd.

Our registered higher education qualification, the Higher Certificate in Business Management (NQF Level 5), is accredited by the Council on Higher Education (CHE) and registered on the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) under SAQA Qualification ID: 125058.

Occupational and Vocational Accreditation

As a QCTO-accredited Skills Development Provider (SDP), IBM College is authorised to deliver accredited occupational and vocational qualifications within South Africa's education and training system. Our programmes are accredited and quality assured by the Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) and, where applicable, implemented in collaboration with the relevant Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) responsible for specific industry sectors.

The South African Qualification Landscape

South Africa’s education and training system operates within the National Qualifications Framework (NQF), which is overseen by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).

SAQA is responsible for maintaining the national register of qualifications and ensuring that all recognised qualifications meet the standards of the NQF. However, SAQA itself does not accredit institutions or qualifications directly. Instead, this responsibility is delegated to three statutory Quality Councils, each responsible for a different sector of education and training.

The Three South African Quality Councils

Qualifications offered by education providers in South Africa must be quality assured by one of the following bodies:

Council on Higher Education (CHE) – responsible for quality assurance of higher education qualifications offered by universities and accredited private higher education institutions.
Umalusi – the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training.
Quality Council for Trades and Occupations (QCTO) – responsible for occupational qualifications linked to specific professions and trades.

Option 1: Request the formal QCTO-issued Accreditation letter from the Educational Institution

Learners are welcome to request formal confirmation of accreditation directly from us. Upon request, we can provide the official accreditation letter issued by the QCTO, confirming that our Institute has been accredited and authorised to offer the specific Occupational Qualification in question.

To verify an accredited provider:

Visit the official QCTO website: www.qcto.org.za
Navigate to the section titled “Databases of Skills Development Providers (SDPs)”.
Download the latest list of accredited providers, which is typically available as a spreadsheet.
Search the document for the provider’s registered name.

Our registered legal name appears as: The Institute of Business Management of Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd

You may search the spreadsheet using our registered name, location, or the specific Occupational Qualification to confirm that we are listed as an accredited provider.

IBM College has been delivering SETA-accredited qualifications since 2017, providing nationally recognised vocational education and workforce development programmes to learners across South Africa.

Over the years, we have partnered with employers, government departments and organisations across multiple industries, helping thousands of learners develop practical, industry-relevant skills through accredited qualifications.

While South Africa's vocational education system is transitioning to the QCTO occupational qualifications framework, IBM College continues to offer approved legacy SETA-accredited qualifications where permitted, alongside an expanding portfolio of QCTO-accredited occupational qualifications. This ensures students continue to have access to nationally recognised qualifications throughout the transition.

Option 1: Request our official accreditation documentation

Learners and prospective students are welcome to request copies of the official accreditation letters issued by the relevant Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) for our legacy SETA-accredited qualifications.

These documents confirm that IBM College is accredited to offer the relevant qualification in accordance with the applicable SETA requirements.

Option 2: Verify independently

Many legacy SETA qualifications may also be verified through the relevant SETA or, where applicable, through the official learner records maintained by the applicable Quality Council.

Because verification processes differ between SETAs, learners are welcome to contact us and we will gladly direct them to the appropriate verification process for the qualification in question.

Professional Recognition and CPD Endorsements

In addition to nationally recognised accreditation, IBM College enhances the industry relevance of selected programmes through recognition and endorsement by leading SAQA-registered professional bodies.

Selected programmes enable learners to earn Continuing Professional Development (CPD) points, helping professionals maintain their professional standing while advancing their knowledge and skills. Recognition is provided by organisations including the Association for Office Professionals in South Africa (OPSA), the South African Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (SAIOSH), and the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP).

In addition, selected programmes are endorsed by International Qualifications for Business (IQB), providing learners with additional international academic recognition.

National and International Bodies

Selected IBM College courses are awarded Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits by the South African Board for People Practices (SABPP), South Africa's professional body for Human Resource Management and People Practices. Our Workplace Ethics for HR and L&D Practitioners short course enables learners to earn SABPP CPD credits while developing knowledge and skills aligned with recognised professional and ethical standards within the HR profession.

Our college is proudly registered with the Office Professionals of South Africa (OPSA), the leading professional body for office administration in the country. Many of our short course programmes are endorsed by OPSA, affirming their relevance, quality, and alignment with professional standards in the administrative field. Upon successful completion, students receive an additional OPSA Certificate, further enhancing their professional credibility and career prospects within the dynamic world of office and business support services.
