An Occupational Health and Safety Practitioner advises employees and management on safety and health aspects in the workplace. This includes the monitoring and inspecting of the workplace and the recording and investigation of incidents and accidents. They also implement and maintain Occupational Health and Safety systems to ensure a safe and healthy work environment.

Occupations: Safety, Health and Quality Practitioner| Safety Coordinator| Safety and Health Advisor| Occupational Safety and Health assistant.

The qualifications consists of 3 components: knowledge which is theory, practical which is practical application in the workplace, and a workplace component which requires you complete working hours.

External Integrated Summative Assignment (EISA)

Once you have successfully completed all three components, you are eligible for the EISA. The EISA is a final integrated assessment that is done in the form of a written assessment and cover the key elements of the theory and practical modules.

Course Content

A qualified learner will be able to:

  • Inspect work places and environments to identify the occupational health and safety hazards and determine the  associated risks.
  • Facilitate and support actions to eliminate or control hazards to minimise risks in a designated work area.
  • Represent the needs of employees with regard to Occupational Health and Safety matters.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of operational Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems.
  • Monitor and continually improve the effectiveness of operational Occupational Health and Safety systems.

The qualification is made up of a Knowledge, Practical and Workplace component.

Entry Requirements

A National Senior Certificate (Matric) with Mathematical Literacy

OR
