The ICB Financial Accounting Programme starts with level 1, which is the National Certificate: Bookkeeping Foundation NQF3. The programme consists of 12 subjects that build on each other.
In the Foundation level, you will complete 4 subjects, and after successful completion you will be able to proceed to the next level. The four subjects of the National Certificate Bookkeeping Foundation are:
1. Business Literacy
Designed to equip you with the basic numerical and communication skills required to operate effectively in business.
2. Bookkeeping to Trial Balance
Introducing you to source documents, the rules of double entry, subsidiary journals, the general ledger, bookkeeping for the different inventory systems and bank and creditors reconciliations.
3. Payroll & Monthly SARS Returns
This module will introduce you to payroll and the Basic Conditions of Employment Act as well as basic business ethics. Learners will be able to complete the payroll function from the bookkeeping perspective. You will also learn how to complete SARS payroll returns (EMP201, IRP5, IT3a, IRP501) as well as how to complete the VAT201 return.
4. Computerised Bookkeeping
It is essential that the bookkeeper be able to complete the monthly bookkeeping function on a computer. In this module you will learn how to do bookkeeping using Microsoft Office and a computerised accounting package, Pastel.
